Rebranding the busy season with an intention to rest. A misconception about the 10,000 hours rule, the 7 types of rest and your perfect restful prescription.
Love the concept of restivities, what a brilliant word. I also like The Art of Rest and came to it after years for conditioning in the corporate world to always be busy. I’ll be reading. My not so guilty pleasure is a Christmas novel, filled to the brim with the usual predictable storylines. There is something wonderfully comforting in that.
The word restivities visited me while out on a walk with the dog in darkness one morning. Like all visits from the muse, she's already told others so I can't claim to have invented it, but my God did I need that word! Enjoy your Christmas novel - will it be a Christmas murder or a romance or another genre all together? I hear Reindeer Noir is a thing this year :)
I like that word, restivities! It makes rest not only sound fun, but also essential. As part of life as any celebration. I vote reading number one, too. The act of sitting outside, sheltered, book in hand, coffee either hot or cold, slides a person gently into another stressful or busy day.
You are so right - it is essential. I love your description of sliding gently into the day. I hope you have fun for your restivities. Any seasonally themed coffee and cookie combos this year?

I think I'm the Queen of Idle. And I have tons of nothing to prove it.
In that case January's theme of deliberate practice will help!
Deliberative rest might be harder than writing. Thank you for the guidance for this.
I know! I am the worst at disconnecting. I find I have to do something to ease me away from work - pottering about helps.
I think I might need one of those perpetual boot-in-the-bum machines!
I recently re-read Over Sea, Under Stone and it was surprisingly stressful as an adult!
Children's books are horrific! And that's their beauty and power.
