Hi Bec, was really interesting to read about how to go deep and slow. I often forget it when I write, a voice in my head telling me "it`s a waste of time" to go deep. A library is probably a perfect space, and that,s something I should do more often. Probably ending up beeing much more effective. Espen
Thank you Espen - I always forget to go the the library and when I do, I swear I'll go more! I really needed that reminder to slow down and I am pleased it helped you too.
I've been enjoying - slowly - listening to the pod, and recently recommended it as a helpful resource in the recent issue of my "The Artist's Way: Next Steps" series 😊🎧
Lauren I just read your post. THANK YOU! And I love the picture of our book next to Jami Attenberg's. The post it note sticking out was a literary cherry on the top. I hope the Artist Way series is going well and going 'slow' in the best possible way.
Hi Bec, I've been listening to the podcasts and love that some of the methods work for your writers and some don't (i.e., writing at a different time of day). I'm a huge Oliver Burkeman fan, so I did the retype/rewrite for a short essay I was working on. I got rid of almost the entire original draft, which I had worked on for close to a month, and the rewrite took just a couple of days. I'm not sure if it will get published, but I did received supportive feedback from some writer-friends before sending it off. Thanks so much for doing this work. It's truly helpful. Janet
Oh Bec, I needed this, so much! Have really enjoyed the podcast and can imagine the amount of work going into it. As usual, caught up from behind, and wanted to listen to the Alison Jones one twice - even in my current schedule 6 minutes seems possible! Yes, take a break, please. There is always so much content to absorb, so much to read (thanks Substack) that there is little time left over for actual writing - particularly when the occasional gig comes up, and puppy raising for Guide Dogs is full-time in itself! Something has to give, so any breaks in transmission welcomed!
Incidentally, I listen on Spotify, on my phone, but can't find anywhere to like the episodes. Is that because I have the free version?
Thank you Nicola - thrilled my podcast has fitted into a life that includes full time puppy raising. It's helpful to get feedback on the break. Noted! I just had a quick look at spotify online and I needed to log in, but I think my account is linked to Chris's which is paid. Will investigate. As ever any likes on substack help! I hope you can find 6 minutes and enjoy time for writing.

What a great way to lean into "Araf!".

Ah you are so welcome, and glad you enjoyed! 🤗
Revisiting the book has been a joy too! X
Bless you! Thank you! I fully endorse joy-finding, especially between the covers of a book.
Absolutely 💯🥰

Janet - that means so much. Thank for listening and for trying out Oliver's tip. I'm keeping everything crossed for your submission.
