How does creativity feel?
Help us investigate breakthroughs and blocks.
Hello writing friends - it’s Chris and Bec here.
If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know we’ve been (somewhat tortuously) writing a book proposal for the past year. It’s about the experience of making something when there’s no clear path and no signal telling you whether you’re doing it ‘right’.
At the heart of the book is a simple idea: we often misread the difficulty of creative work as a verdict on ourselves or our projects, when in fact that difficulty is the defining feature of work that involves uncertainty. Learning to interpret difficulty differently and non-judgementally matters not just for finishing creative projects, but for living a meaningful life.
This is what we want to explore in the new book - and we’re asking for your help in this final newsletter of the year.
We’re running a short survey to gather real examples of when things clicked and when they didn’t. We’re not looking for polished stories, just moments: the time an idea suddenly made sense, or the afternoon you sat staring at your work convinced you should abandon it entirely. We want to understand how those experiences felt - and crucially, what you assumed they meant about you or the work.
The survey takes just a few minutes. All questions are optional, and responses are anonymous unless you choose to leave your email for a follow-up chat. We’ll share what we learn as the book develops, and you’ll be among the first to hear when it’s published.
Thank you for helping us explore this.
Whatever you are doing, have a wonderful festive break.
Chris & Bec
